Home Brew Recipe Kit for our version of Shining Peak Brewing Fanny Fantham's lager. This kit is based on the original recipe kindly provided by Shining Peak Brewing

German Style Pilsner. Light and grisp, but with a pleasant malt sweetness. This beer received a Silver Medal at the Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards in 2019 and another Silver at the 2021 Australian International Beer Awards 

THE YARN BEHIND THE BREW
Back when ladies were seen as vaporous, fragile creatures jammed into supportive hosiery, Fanny Fantham was suiting up as part of the first party to climb the pimply peak on the south slope of Mt. Taranaki. It’s known as Fantham's Peak to this day. We’re tipping our hat to Fanny’s alpine ambitions with the German Pilsner style lager.

IBU: 19  ABV: 5.0%  OG:  1.046  FG: 1.008

All ingredients you will need are included in this recipe kit. Malted Grain, Hops, Yeast, Irish Moss and brew water additions. (Malt Extract for Extract Option).  Kit includes brewing instructions.

Size: 23 Litres  (1/2 Batch option also available).

Malts - Milled in one bag ready for you to mash in!

  • German Pilsner Malt  (All Grain Option)
  • Gladiator Malt
  • Sour Grapes Malt

or for the Extract with Partial Mash option:

  • Liquid Malt Extract
  • Specialty Malts (Steep)

Hops are all pre-measured for each addition and vac packed in foil bags to make your brew day easier. A combination of Pacific Jade for bittering, and Loral late addition for aroma.

Yeast: Two yeasts to choose from,

M54 Californian Lager Yeast. A unique lager strain that has the ability to ferment at ale temperatures without the associated off flavours. Extended lagering periods are also not required.

W-34/70 Saflager Yeast, for Temperature Controlled Fermentations.  This famous yeast strain from Weihenstephan in Germany is used world-wide within the brewing industry. Thanks to its technological properties, this true German lager yeast strain has become the most popular strain for lager brewing and is used by industrial breweries and brewing groups around the globe. When using W-34/70 in full batch kits two packs are supplied (Manufacturer's recommended dosage for this yeast is 11.5g per 10 to 15Lts)

  • Extract with Partial Mash,  Full 23L Batch.  Comes with Liquid Malt Extract and a specialty grain pack to add additional flavour.
